Governors Island In the Winter -A 4-5 Mile Hiking Tour- LIMIT 20-25

Details

THIS EVENT HAS NOT BEEN ANNOUNCED TO THE ENTIRE GROUP.

I HAVE CONDUCTED TOURS ON GOVERNORS ISLAND FOR MANY YEARS NOW-BUT NEVER IN WINTER!

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE EVENT VERY CAREFULLY. IF YOU DON'T, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME --AND MINE.

A MONETARY CONTRIBUTION IS REQUIRED BUT THE AMOUNT OF THAT CONTRIBUTION IS UP TO YOU.

MASKS ARE REQUIRED.

SPACE ON THE FERRY IS LIMITED. YOU WILL NEED TICKETS IN ADVANCE FOR THE FERRY. I WILL PROVIDE INFO ON HOW TO GET TICKETS TO THOSE WHO SIGN UP SUBJECT TO THE CRITERIA BELOW.

Attendance will be INITIALLY limited to those members who have attended at least one event with this group during COVID and hopefully more/or who have attended multiple events with this group in the last few years with few cancellations. No guests please. I want to give extremely strong preference to those members who have supported this group since its inception given the fact there is limited registration.

The wait list for this group does not operate in a conventional way. Those on the wait list will not be moved to the going list automatically.

PLEASE ALSO READ "WHAT WE'RE ABOUT" ON THIS MEETUP'S HOME PAGE BEFORE YOU RSVP IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY ON "WHAT WE'RE ABOUT” NOW SPECIFICALLY REFERENCES THE CORONA VIRUS. (THE WAIVER OF LIABILITY HAS BEEN POSTED SINCE THE INCEPTION OF THIS MEETUP GROUP)

MEETING DETAILS WILL BE SENT BY E-MAIL TO THOSE WHO RSVP NO LATER THAN THE EVENING BEFORE THE HIKE AND PROBABLY SOONER.

IN ORDER TO CONDUCT THIS EVENT AS SAFELY AS POSSIBLE, I INTEND TO:

*REQUIRE ALL ATTENDEES TO HAVE A FACE MASK AND WEAR IT.

*MAINTAIN SOCIAL DISTANCING WHENEVER POSSIBLE.

*USE VOICE AMPLIFICATION IN ORDER TO AVOID PEOPLE CROWDING AROUND ME.

*MINIMIZE COMMENTARY WHENEVER POSSIBLE & KEEP THINGS
MOVING.

*KEEP THE GROUP SIZE TO AROUND 20 OR SO.

IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, ON YOUR DESKTOP, PLEASE CLICK ON YOUR PROFILE WHICH IS ON THE TOP RIGHT OF THE SITE, THEN CLICK "SETTINGS", THEN CLICK E-MAIL UPDATES" ON THE LEFT. MAKE SURE YOUR E-MAIL UPDATES ARE ON AND WHERE IT SAYS "UPDATES ABOUT YOU”, CHECK MESSAGES BOX. THIS WILL HELP TO INSURE YOU GET MESSAGES FROM ME.

We are going to explore Governors Island in the winter. NOTE: This will be a fun, fast paced comprehensive tour of the Island. We will be stopping a number of times to briefly talk about what we see. The views of the New York City skyline are great. (Photo by Marjorie)

Ferry cost is free. There may be a security check before you board the Ferry. Leave your weapons at home.

We will meet Before 11:15 A.M to catch the ferry.

BRING LUNCH AND WATER. THIS GROUP NEVER STOPS TO BUY FOOD ON AN EVENT!

As an Organizer I have to pay Meetup a relatively small fee each month and there are other costs associated with running this group that are more costly. Plus, I spend much time and effort preparing for an event. I am going to request that anyone who attends an event make a monetary contribution but the amount of that donation is entirely up to you. You can contribute whatever you want either at the beginning or the end of an event. (Preferably at the beginning).

I am going to ask that people not post any comments or questions prior to the event. (Just respect my wishes and just don't do it.) You have more than enough information to do this once you get the meeting details. No offense, but I don’t need to know-and neither does anyone else- what you are doing that day if you can’t make it or what you think the weather will be. These comments are really annoying. AFTER the event, post as many comments and photos as you like.

If the weather forecast is bad, See Accuweather and the National Weather Service like I do, I will post a notice on the day of the hike by 8 A.M. If there is no notice, we go.

After we conclude our visit, we will catch a ferry back to Manhattan where we started. You do not need to get a return ticket. You can leave the Island at any time.

MY PLAN IS TO TAKE THE FERRY BACK AT 2:30 P.M.
